A few kernels of wisdom from Patrick Ng on taking great travel photos:
* Shoot street signs, direction signs, traffic lamp, sky, road, subway scenes etc... All these things are not going to be the main imagery of your album's story, but they are essential to add a foreign taste to your main image.
* A photo layout on an album page is about telling a story; prepare a few layouts before you even start shooting.
* Shoot people's faces, shoot as much as you can -- they are the souls of the country you visit.
Grab a cup of coffee and put your feet up before you click on the link to Patrick Ng's blog -- you will blissfully lose yourself for a while in his post "Travel Photo Cafe 2008 - a talk about photography and travel." It is chock-full of inspirational photographs, album layouts, ideas, suggestions and tips, all resulting from a get-together he organized recently at c!ty'super's Times Square location in Hong Kong. An afternoon with creative people interested in travel and taking photos, wine, snacks and Kolo photo albums... No surprise it yielded such great results as these album layout examples, done on black cloth-hinged Kolo Newport album pages. Many more can be found on Patrick's blog, "Scription - Thoughts on Stationery and Beyond" and his Flickr page.
