Kolo Cortina Album Gets Soaked | |
|
Monday 15th Dec 2008 |
Leave it to our creative friend Steve Light to try something bold and daring like this: I thought it would be fun to try a messy project, so I have a Kolo Luxury Cortina album soaking in a tub of tea. I want to make it look deliberately old and worn. I love old journals and books that have that worn look... like it was something that was cherished and enjoyed a lot. Cool, Steve, we look forward to it! - Ugo |

Would love to see a lot more hacks from koloists.
And I can see this album will be something related to Prof. Zaphire, the flying mad scientist character of yours?

"HACK" Since Koloist has visitors from around the world, it's probably a good idea to explain the term "hack" as it appears in Patrick Ng's Comment above. It's a slang term that you'll notice appearing in blogs about creativity. It's complimentary and is most likely borrowed from the technical slang word "hack," which means "a clever or elegant technical accomplishment, especially one with a playful bent." In this sense, it describes a project in which a product is creatively altered in a cool and unusual way.

Steve, This is such a cool idea. So how long does it have to soak?
Is that handmade paper behind the plastic tub?

I soaked it in a black tea and used hot tap water. The loose tea works best because where the tea leaves are they leave darker spots/specks makes it look like old paper.
I did not leave it in very long--five--ten minutes tops. But I left the loose tea leaves on the pages and even scooped some onto the pages to dry. The cover got a soak but not as long. I was making sure to get tea in between each page.
HC -- The "handmade paper" in the background is Viva brand paper towels!!! That made me laugh--it looks like paper though!

Whoa! What an inspiration! Would love to give it a try one of these days :). Me too love the 'worn-aged-and-tattered' look! Can't wait to see what you will do with it next! Thanks!

Patrick, Zephyr Springsmith would be great for this kind of "old" looking book BUT I have other plans!! You will have to stay tuned! Same Kolo time--same Kolo station! All I will say is there are some monkeys involved!
