It is truly remarkable to me that an image such as this has endured throughout time, just like the ideals that Lincoln's presidency encompassed. Pictures like this take us from imagining such an historic event as happening in a far off distant place and time, in the dusty annals of history and show us that we are a young country, an infant really. Full of hope, and ready for change.

How will the memories of tomorrow's historic day be viewed in 150 years?

With all this talk of Lincoln lately this photo just brought it home for me. Incredible.

I heard Obama is serving Lincoln's favorite meals at the ceremonial lunch tomorrow ---wild pheasant and duck.

Everyone's hopes are so high.

I couldn't agree more. The anticipation for this extraordinary day is palpable. It feels like the day the first man walked on the moon. It's hard to concentrate on anything else today.

And Barack Obama will take the oath on Abraham Lincoln's Bible, the very one President Lincoln used the day of this photo, at HIS first inauguration. There's some really interesting background about that here:

Love the Herman Hesse quote. What's the constant of this photo and today's inauguration? The flow of history. If you are interested in this idea, check out Herman Hesse's Siddhartha, love this masterpiece! The most re-read out of all my books.
