Toddler's Big Photo Album | |

Our Koloist friend Hildi was good enough to share these pictures of this photo album that her parents handmade. My parents made this oversized photo album for my brother Mark when he was a toddler, around 1961. I love that first shot... he still has that slightly impish expression. How cool that this book looks rugged enough to let a toddler handle without worries. It does look well loved. A while back, Hildi posted another really good project idea, which you can see here. |

Hildi, Do you know what your parents used to glue down the photos? I'm always suspicious of the adhesives, wonder if they really last over time? And did the photos stay stuck down over the years, or did they have to be re-glued?
Did your parents just use plain cardboard? It looks nice and stiff in the photo, like maybe they used that "chipboard" that is used to mail things in envelopes that they want to keep stiff. ???
Work with an oversized board and then trim up to the picture, this will make it much easier to position a large photo accurately. Or use an oversized print you plan to crop, mount it to the board and trim the overhang print against the board edge.
The board is pretty thick a good match to this thickness would be a .080 (2mm) bookbinders board or a 6 ply mat board.
I bet you can get these materials at a good frame shop or a great resource is Talas in NYC, talasonline.com
