Drawing From Life; The Journal As Art | |
|
Monday 9th Mar 2009 |
Journals are unsung heroes, the working stiffs of creative life. They live in the pockets and shoulder bags of all sorts of people. A birder on a morning walk, a scientist in the field, a film director delayed in a foreign airport, a fashion designer musing over next season's collection, a teenager avoiding schoolwork: all keeping journals as trusted confidantes and reliable workhorses... This book is also available online at Barnes & Noble. |

That quote above really resonated with me. I never write down where I was drawing or the name of a place I drew--when I am drawing it I think I will always remember it! Luckily my wife always dates and writes these things down and we are usually drawing together these days!

And what Vanessa Holden & Susie Cushner said in "Photo Album," how these little souvenirs can jog a powerful memory, transport us to another time and place. Good to save some objects that will remind us some day of our former selves in earlier days, and add some to our albums/journals:
