If you’re in the vicinity of Bean Town this month and can get yourself over to the famous Toscanini’s in Central Square in Cambridge, well you’re in for a treat. And not just because Toscanini’s makes “the best ice cream in the world” according to The New York Times, but because through the month of April they’re hosting a photography exhibit “I Love My Zip Code, J’aime Mon Code Postal” featuring the work of Mikki Ansin and Esther Sobin. Both photographers will be at the opening of their show tonight (Friday, April 3) from 6 – 8 p.m. Mikki Ansin is a photojournalist with quite a resume, having worked with Merchant Ivory Productions, the Carter White House and The Kennedy Foundation. Familiar faces she has captured include President Jimmy Carter, Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy, Anthony Hopkins, Susan Sarandon, Gwyneth Paltrow, and ol' Blue Eyes Himself, Paul Newman. Her photos have appeared in Time, Life, People, The New York Times, International Herald Tribune, Paris Match and The London Times. Check out her web site here. In the South of France, Esther Sobin’s stunning black and white images of nature are made with a medium or large format camera and then turned into fine art silver gelatin prints or photogravures, all in limited numbered editions. Go here to see examples of her work. And if all that isn’t tempting enough, read on about Toscanini's delectable ice cream flavors like burnt caramel and cardamom & peppermint, and get directions to Toscanini’s here. |

Oh, and guess what, the guest book was a Kolo album. Mikki is a big Kolo fan. As if we needed another reason to love Mikki -- she's amazing. "Shot out of a cannon."
To top it all off, I had the burnt caramel ice cream and my companion had the vanilla -- nothing plain about it. The rave reviews of Toscanini's aren't exaggerated, the ice cream is to-die-for! (Great place ya got there, Gus. We Shall Return.)
Mille bises,
