Moon Soup, Second Helping - Play the Game | |
|
Thursday 9th Jul 2009 |
The eclectic nature of the Moon Soup project by Florida graphic design student, Hiller Goodspeed, makes it fun to peruse slowly, giving you a glimpse into the creative psyche of the artist. You can study the same page several times, and find something new with each viewing. Have a little fun and take a moment to play the Moon Soup game ... there’s a prize to be won! (An archival Kolo Riva frame-page photo album.) From among the descriptive quotes from the artist listed below, match the correct quote to the appropriate numbered layout above. Two steps: (1) Click on COMMENT (upper left) to post whatever comment you wish about the project and hit "send comment," then... (2) Click on COMMENT a second time to post only your answers to the quiz, which should be a list of paired letters and numbers (i.e. B1, A2, etc...) (No need to register to post comments on Koloist – anyone can post comments. More contest details provided below.) Match the artist’s quote to the appropriate numbered layout shown above: A. “To get the bubbly texture, I turned a ping-pong paddle into a rubber stamp. I just covered the surface of the paddle with acrylic.” B. “This is a true story relayed by my friend. There was a kid who was an amazing artist. He won a bunch of grant money, and he thought he should use the money he was getting for his art to spread a positive message. So he invested it all into printing plain stickers that had this simple four-word message on them. I liked the spirit behind his idea, so I included his positive message in this book.” C. “I found this on a kitchen counter. It wasn’t the words that interested me – it was the shape of the coffee stain.” D. “The subject of the photo in this collage is fitting: the background is old blank pages from Paradise Lost by John Milton. I decided to add my own positive message to the first positive message.” E. “This is an image I cut out of an old architectural book, then I added origami paper to create a 'story.' The opposing page is made with aged drafting paper I found in an old warehouse slated for demolition. It has safety messages and drafting scales all over it.” F. “The background paper is old with faded printing on it. I think it gives some depth to the piece, rather than starting with a blank sheet. I painted on the background paper in upward strokes to create a feeling of deep water. Then I added cut-outs, some from a nautical book with pictures of prehistoric bacteria in cool shapes.” From among all the correct answers received by 11:59 pm, U.S. Eastern time, Wednesday 7/15/09, a winner will be chosen at random and announced on Koloist, Thursday, 7/16/09. (Until then, we’ll keep your posted answers hidden.) The winner will have 48 hours from the time the announcement is posted to claim their prize by posting a Comment on Koloist, otherwise, the prize – an archival Kolo Riva frame-page photo album – will be forfeited to the next runner up. In a previous post on Koloist titled Moon Soup, we featured the first half of artist Hiller Goodspeed’s book of found objects and mixed-media collage that he made using a Kolo Vineyard album. The layouts shown in this post are the second half of this same book, Moon Soup. Photos of Moon Soup also appear on Koloist Flickr. |

It definitely makes each piece more interesting if you know a little about the background and what they are made from!
What an interesting game! Thanks for participating.
