Dream Archives Portal #006 - "The Man Without Skin" | |
|
Monday 20th Jul 2009 |
Altered KOLO Havana Box, vintage glass slide mount, acrylic, thread. About Dream Archives Portal #006, artist Lie Fhung explains: It's just a dream I had. But what makes it interesting - well, at least for me - is perhaps why did I dream him? He appeared in my dream late last year - a man without skin, with contorted gesture trying to tell me something, he opened his mouth but no sound came out. I was afraid to get closer to him although I was curious and felt sorry for him as he seemed to be suffering. I thought whatever he got, it might be contagious - that if I got too close to him I might turn like him. Artist Lie Fhung is an accomplished "digiscraptist" and graphic designer, but perhaps best known for her ceramics work. She resides in Hong Kong, but it is originally from Indonesia, where her solo art exhibitions have been celebrated in the capital city, Jakarta. Known as "The Mother of Ceramics" in her home country, lately Fhung has been working on the art installation called Dream Archives, which she has been creating with archival Kolo Havana Boxes. Previous "Portals" of the Dream Archives project have appeared on Koloist, which you can see by going here and scrolling down). For more about Dream Archives, go here. Fhung is working on a new project called Universal Scrapbooks. Everyone around the world is invited to participate (you, too) by providing an object representing a dream, which will be included in a Kolo scrapbook album. The Universal Scrapbook will go on exhibition as part of the Dream Archives art installation, beginning autumn 2009. To learn more, go here. People across different personal backgrounds, cultures and geographical locations... might share similar dreams. . |
