Dream Archives Portal #007 (In Progress) | |
|
Thursday 6th Aug 2009 |
If you've been following this blog, then you know that artist Lie Fhung has been creating an art installation called "Dream Archives" using Kolo Havana Boxes which will exhibit beginning this fall in Jakarta, Indonesia, along with her Universal Scrapbooks project (for which Fhung is using the new Kolo Kaji 12x12 scrapbook album). This is Dream Archives Portal #007, a work in progress. Fhung explains: As you can see in the first photo, I cut a hole on the back end of the box. Through that hole, you can see the cutting mat surface on my table. Dream Archives #007 is still waiting for its porcelain component to be fired in the kiln. I will have to accumulate enough items to fill up the kiln for time and energy efficiency in the firing - I expect to be able to do the firing in a week or so. Meanwhile, the box itself is done - it now has two peeping spyglasses on the lid, as you can see from the third photo, above. I inked and sanded the surface for the scruffy, worn look. Lie Fhung is an accomplished "digiscraptist" and graphic designer, but perhaps best known for her ceramics work. She resides in Hong Kong, but is originally from Indonesia, where her solo art exhibitions have been celebrated in the capital city, Jakarta. Known as "The Mother of Ceramics" in her home country, lately Fhung has been working on this Dream Archives art installation. Previous "Portals" of the Dream Archives project have appeared on Koloist, which you can see by going here and scrolling down). You're invited to participate in Fhung's Universal Scrapbooks project by providing an object representing a dream, which will be included in the Universal Scrapbook (a Kolo Kaji album). The Universal Scrapbook will go on exhibit as part of the Dream Archives art installation, beginning autumn 2009. To learn more, go here. For more information about Lie Fhung, refer to her bio in the side bar of this blog under "Contributors." |

The spy glasses are an interesting touch. Can't wait to see the ceramics piece that'll go in here.
If I want to send something for the Universal Scrapbook, where do I send it? What is the minimum / max size?
oh wait, I think I'm confused between a Dream Archive project of yours with the Universal Scrapbook project you are inviting people to join. Can you explain a bit here?
I'm sure Fhung will want to answer your questions, too, but in the meantime, let me direct you to this web page that explains a bit more about the Universal Scrapbooks project and how you can participate by submitting a "dream signifier."

If you have more questions, please be sure to post 'em here. Patrick, if you decide to paint a Havana, we'd love to see that. Would love to see whatever it is you submit for Universal Scrapbook! Also... you're up late! Go get your zzz's!
Jimmin:
The address to send your 'Dream-Signifier Object' is in that link given by Ugo (http://art.liefhung.com/blog/2009/07/16/public-participation-call/).
There is no max size although ideally it would be something that could be fit into a 12"x12" scrapbook page - so something not too bulky/heavy would be nice. However, I am open to any kinds of object you think best represent your dream. If they are too big/bulky/heavy, I would just photograph them and use the results instead.
Patrick:
Please refer to http://art.liefhung.com/blog/2009/07/16/public-participation-call/ for the details of the Universal Scrapbooks Project.
Ugo:
If you ask me, I suspect Patrick doesn't ever sleep!
Ugo, I have it all figured out in my mind already! My next painting for my son (2.9 to 4.5 years old) is going to be done on Havana instead of canvas. It is to be hanged on our wall, flip it open you will see some items my son owns or fond of..... God give me 48 hours per day please.
Best of luck on your Back to School event. (Wow, is it that time already?)
Your plan with the Havana Box sounds brilliant! What a treasure it will be. You should make a series of them! And please do share with us :)
I need 48 hours a day too... Although I suspect it would still be not enough!
