This weekend, as I was looking through my own photographs of Hong Kong street scenes, traffic signals and mailboxes, I was reminded of this layout Patrick Ng of Hong Kong created, showing his photos of a New York City post office. About these photos, Patrick said: I was warned by a guy saying, "Do you want to go to jail?" when I was taking pictures of the mailboxes. Ah, the risks photographers must take to get their shots. Patrick showed this particular layout at one of the Travel Photo Cafe events that he hosts annually at Hong Kong's city'super, with this advice about travel photography: Shoot street signs, direction signs, traffic lamp, sky, road, subway scenes etc. All these things are not going to be the main imagery of your album's story, but they are essential to add a foreign taste to your main images. He created this layout and several others on archival-quality black Kolo Newport sheets, hinged with black cloth. The Kolo Newport photo album is post-bound, which allows you to take the album covers off, create your layouts, then easily re-assemble the album. The Kolo Newport's scrapbook-style pages allows for free form designs, like this one. Patrick's blog, Scription, Thoughts on Stationery and Beyond, is inspirational for the creative and curious sort, who enjoys photography and travel. Check it out here. - Ugo |
