Meryl Streep's Kolo Newport | |

Wednesday 10th Feb 2010 |
“Wow! Oh my God! That’s absolutely amazing!” Millions watching PBS tonight saw Meryl Streep’s breathless delight when Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr., presented her with a Kolo Newport photo album. OK, maybe her excitement had something to do with the photos, documents and other ephemera proving that her ancestor was one of the U.S. Founding Fathers. But you gotta admit, that Kolo album did look “absolutely amazing.” In a four-part mini-series called “Faces of America” airing on PBS stations across the U.S., celebrated genealogist Gates presents celebrities with fascinating documentation of their ancestors’ lives, beautifully organized in – you guessed it – archival Kolo Newport photo albums. Streep learned that her ancestor – just days after the Declaration of Independence in 1776 – became a delegate to the Pennsylvania Constitutional Convention, and on one of the pages of her new Kolo Newport is his signature on an ancient document that proves it. - Ugo |

Especially since Kolo did not seek out the famous Professor Gates for this project... the famous Professor Gates sought out Kolo. A sincere organic endorsement from the archivist of all archivists.
The next natural progression of this series would be "Faces of the World," tracing the ancestry of famous people from around the world - with international television programming. How cool would that be?
