Kolo Luxury Cortina. Photos and project by Kelli Taylor.

Kolo Luxury Cortina. Photos and project by Kelli Taylor.

Photographer Kelli Taylor decided to try something new with one layout in her Kolo Luxury Cortina 60th anniversary photo album.

I was totally inspired by the "Lazy Brunch" chapter of the Photo Album book. This was my first attempt at cutting along the silhouette of a picture and overlapping it with another. Such a cool trick.

This technique enhances the illusion of movement through the album. By adding a creative spin on the old worn photos, she made her grandparents’ story come to life.

More layout and design tips can be found in Photo Album The Essential Guide to Sorting, Sharing and Keeping Photos by Susie Cushner and Vanessa Holden.

More of Kelli Taylor’s 60th anniversary photo album in a previous post.

“Through eyes of an immigrant, a newcomer, a new citizen…”

Aleksandra Pavlovic moved to Berlin this year to work as a freelance artist after several years studying at three different universities. She chose to portray her impression of Berlin using a ruby/mandarin striped Kolo Newbury photo album.

Aleksandra on her Berlin-themed Kolo book:

It is Berlin through my eyes, through eyes of an immigrant, a newcomer, a new citizen, and my personal emotions towards it. I depict my impression with life, joy and euphoria of the fall of the wall, crossed boundaries and social life after the fall. The wall is no more, yet will never be forgotten, it is remembered in the daily celebration of freedom.

The physical wall is gone, however, as an artist, I still question; what other walls are there? Are there blurred or invisible walls between the people in this great city, between long time inhabitants and those coming more recently, between the various nationalities and cultures in Berlin, between the generations? Or are the invisible walls nonexistent?

To see other Berlin-themed Kolo books, go here and here.

The next stop for the “Berlin Through My Lens” Exhibition is Frankfurt. Stay tuned for more details.

Travel Interview with Jen Altman

Photographer Jen Altman told Pret A Voyager, travel and design website, about her previous trips, future journeys and everything in between.

When asked the question, “What’s in your designer travel kit?” Jen did not fail to mention her travel companion - her Kolo Essex Travel Book.

I always bring my pack of Stabilo Point 88 markers, another blank soft cover Moleskine for journaling and sketching, a Kolo Essex travel book for note-taking and stuffing paper goodies {museum brochures and such} and my Ipod - packed with music that will eventually become the soundtrack to that adventure.

Check out the “Boarding Pass” interview with Jen on Pret A Voyager.

Visit Jen Altman’s site and keep updated on her blog, Nectar and Light.
